While working for IDW’s marketing department, I was in charge of editing Creator Spotlight Videos, which were interviews with comic creators on their upcoming books. The content of these videos changed quite a bit during my time at the company. They were originally 5-minute interviews with a host and the creator. For these, I would have to find appropriate art from the books as it was being described to create interest without spoiling the story. Additionally, I was tasked with creating graphical elements to make the video look both professional and on brand with the book.
Later on, Creator Spotlights became shortform content for not just Youtube, but for all social media sites including Instagram and TikTok, never more than one minute in length. These faster-paced videos also required me to find appropriate background music from a variety of music libraries, add subtitles, and create endplate graphics with summarized information about the video.
The main challenge for these videos was the need to first edit them horizontally in 1080x1920 aspect ratio for Youtube, then re-edit a vertical version for TikTok and Instagram. Below is an example of a video in both horizontal and vertical form.
